[Letter], 1844 Jan. 8-16 : Fryeburg, Me., [to] John Stuart Barrows [his son], Boston, Ma.

The elder Barrows made five dated entries in this letter to his son, a medical student in Boston. In his entry for 11 Jan., Barrows complains of an ailment "of the windpipe, throat, lungs, head, or wherever," and asks his son to "make a statement of my case to some of the professors or some old experienced practitioner and get their advice." Barrows' long-standing complaint was probably pulmonary tuberculosis. He died in the summer of 1845.
